Windsor’s Edge vineyard was planted in 1995 by Tim and Jessie Windsor.

The initial plantings were:  5 acres of Shiraz followed by 5 acres of Semillon and a further 5 acres of Chardonnay in 1997. Since then more plantings of Shiraz and the rarer varieties of Tinta Cao and Temprenillo have been planted.

The first grapes were produced in 1999 and our first wine was made in our own, underground boutique winery that year. Since those first faltering steps we have produced 9 successful vintages, with the wines now available for tasting and sale at our friendly cellar door and tasting area.

Because of the increasing popularity of Verdelho it was decided to graft some Verdelho onto one block of Shiraz. We expect our first vintage from this in 2010.

Opening hours are 10am -5pm Saturday and Sunday. Weekday, private or sunset tastings are available by arrangement on 0414997978.

The wines are made by Tim Windsor ( a Charles Sturt graduate) and Jessie ( an industrial chemist).
Our Solera fortified wine is now in it’s 9th year and has recently won its first gold and silver medals.

To date our wines have been awarded many medals at Hunter Valley and NSW wine shows. Our first trophy was won by our Sparkling Shiraz- accompanied by much excitement by us!

Moving forward…………..
This year we were excited to release our first Sparkling White after many requests to do so. Using Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, all from the Hunter, this wine was made using the traditional French Methode Champenoise. It was stored on lees for 3 years before disgorging and final liquoring. It is a dry, brut style wine with fine bubbles and a lovely yeasty character. It is called Jessie’s Sparkling 2005.

Our latest Sparkling Shiraz (2003) is our first to be liquored with our Solera wine which has given it a richness and depth of palate which has really enhanced the wine (you can’t stop at one glass!)

Our crop levels this year have been very low due to last years rain, however the quality is excellent.
