Cellar Door & Wines

Windsor's Edge vineyard was planted in 1995 by Tim & Jessie Windsor.

Initially 5 acres of Shiraz followed by 5 acres of Semillon and a further 5 acres of Chardonnay in 1997. Since then more plantings of Shiraz and the rarer varieties of Tinta Cao and Tempranillo have been planted.

The first grapes were produced in 1999 and our first wine was made in our own, underground boutique winery in that year. Since the first, faltering steps we have produced 6 successful vintages, with the wine now available for tastings and sales at our newly opened Cellar Door tasting room.

Opening hours are 10am-5pm Saturday & Sunday, weekday, private or sunset tastings are available by arrangement on 0414 997 978.

The current range includes the 2000 Sparkling Shiraz,2003 Semillon, 2002 Chardonnay, 2003 Verdelho, 2004 Rose, 2001 Pinot Noir,2000 Shiraz, 2001 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, a Solera Port and a late picked Dessert wine.

The wines are produced at a small winery that is shared with another boutique winery. The wine is made by is made by Tim Windsor (a Charles Sturt graduate) and Jessie (an industrial chemist) For the past two years a small amount of fruit has been taken to the Van Gent winery in Mudgee to be fortified. This is primarily the Tinta Cao and Touriga being Spanish and Portuguese varieties. The aim is to establish a small eight-barrel solera here in the Hunter for the production of a premium fortified wine.

So far our wines have received many medals at Hunter Valley and NSW wine shows. Our first trophy was won by our Sparkling Shiraz accompanied by much excitement by us!

New wines to eagerly await...

Due to demand we have decided to make a white sparkling. Using Pinot and Chardonnay grapes, all Hunter, this wine is being made using the traditional French Methode Champenoise. It will have 2 years bottle ageing before disgorging and will be a smooth wine with very fine bead, and fresh yeasty characters. Jessie has been at me for years to make a white bubbly, she wins!

We are also making a straight Merlot this year using grapes from Orange. This fruit was very ripe when picked which will result in a big soft wine. It is in barrels now and will stay on oak for 12 months. It is due for release in about 18 months.

Our next dessert wine will be made from extremely ripe Verdelho from Orange, picked at 18 baume, it will be stunning and ready for Christmas.
